![]() Windows 7 and the new WMC made a believer out of me. To put it in perspective, this comes from someone who has been a self-avowed Microsoft Hater for many years. WMC's Music Library is highly intuitive and gives you a lot of options to browse through your collection. Instead of the unavailable Media Player codec pack, you can use Vidmore Player to play an MP4 file on Windows and Mac smoothly. If you use Windows Media Player 11/10/9/7 and earlier, there is no MP4 codec for Windows Media Player. It recognized and used my Hauppauge ATSC card and it's remote well from the get-go. Why can’t play MP4 with Windows Media Player Only Windows Media Player 12 support MP4 video playback. It runs fast, and as an all-in-one solution just generally does more things better than the others. WMC, though not as "tweakable," was far easier to configure than any of the other above solutions. MythTV and XBMC are pretty slick, but Myth's audio library was a joke, and XBMC uses separately-started instances of MPlayer to play consecutive tracks on the same CD, so it cuts out the first few seconds of every track. Mediaportal is more configureable, but it's. I haven't used WMP12, but for a single-interface player I would recommend the Windows Media Center that comes with Windows 7.Īs far as the interface for WMC, I've tried Mediaportal, MythTV, and XBMC for HTPC frontends, and WMC beats them all with a big stick.
